On May 20, Fr. Lawrence, along with Jeremy Grady (Chairman of the Finance Council) and Glenda Blindert (Member of the Restoration Committee) presented the Church Restoration Project, Phases II and III, to Bishop Swain and the Presbyteral Council of the Diocese of Sioux Falls. The project was approved, and seemed to be met with enthusiasm by the priests. Therefore, we will begin erecting scaffolding on Monday, June 16. The Conrad Schmitt Studios who decorated our church in 1912 and in 1947 under the direction of Father Weber has again been appointed for this historic undertaking.
Please check back to see the progress on the interior of the church, and updates on the cementing and drainage project in the church (dirt floor) basement, as well as the restoration of our handsome wooden doors.
The new gutters, as well as the new tuck pointing and waterproofing of the east wall, seems to be solving the moisture problem. Drying out and finishing the basement will also help the moisture problem.
Attached are photos of some of the peeling plaster due to moisture/water damage. For before and after photographs of the church sanctuary, please go to the separate page (on the right) labeled “Church Restoration.”
