Prayer of the Christian Farmer – For a Bountiful Harvest
Tuesday, October 20th, 2009PRAYER OF THE CHRISTIAN FARMER – FOR THE HARVEST
O GOD, source and giver of all things, Who manifest Your infinity majesty, power and goodness in the earth about us, we give You honor and glory.
For the sun and the rain, for the manifold fruits of our fields, for the in-crease of our herds and flock, we thank You. For the enrichment of our souls with divine grace, we are grateful.
Supreme Lord of the harvest, graciously accept us and the fruits of our toil, in union with Christ Your Son, as atonement for our sins, for the growth of Your Church, for peace and charity in our homes, for salvation to all.
Amen.
— Holy Mary, Mother of God and Help of Christians, pray for us.
— St. Isidore the Farmer, our heavenly patron and model, pray for us.
PROJECT ISIDORE UPDATE
Wednesday, November 12th, 2008The good Lord was shining on Project Isidore on November 3rd as the corn was harvested on the parish portion of the church quarter. Project Isidore had its ups and downs just like any other farming enterprise. We had a wet spring, but finally got the crop planted just to see heavy rains flood the low areas. The rest of the growing season was very adequate except for the hot dry weather the end of August and 1st of September, but in the end we had a bountiful harvest at 150 bushel an acre of dry corn including all the areas of drown out that were planted. The final figures are not in yet as only the crop insurance guarantee portion had been sold and the rest is unpriced. It does look to be a very profitable venture for the parish.
We would like to thank all those who helped on Project Isidore throughout the year: Shane McGregor & Brian Nelson for their agronomy inputs; Craig Blindert & Jeremy Grady for the crop insurance & marketing strategies; Steve Eichacker coordinated the labor; Raphael Eichacker, spring tillage; Todd Tuschen, planting; Nick Eichacker, 1st chemical spraying and Michael Gottlob, 2nd chemical spraying.
The harvest was done with a great workforce. We started about 9:30am and finished by 1:30pm. There were three combines operated by: Eugene Streff, Pat Gottlob & Steve Eichacker. The rest of the crew that helped haul the corn from the combines and transport to town were: Raphael Eichacker, Jeremy Grady, Jerry Gottlob, Jim Gottlob, Michael Gottlob, Mark Huls, Dean Koch, Jim Koch, Ray Kolbeck, Tom Kolbeck, Seth McGregor & Brian Nelson. Also a thank you to Randy Sabers & The End Zone for furnishing the noon meal on harvest day and 1st Dakota National Bank & Brian Nelson for furnishing the beverages.
A BIG THANK YOU is also extended to Craig & Glenda at Blindert Insurance for donating the crop insurance premium. We also want to express a huge thank you to everyone who donated their time, machinery and finances to make this a huge success.
We are looking for someone, weather permitting, to do some fall tillage to the corn stalks and if you would like to volunteer for next year, please contact Steve Eichacker.
